The holidays bring lots of color and sparkle and twinkle to our lives. It's one of the reasons we love this time of year so much.

Somehow every holiday season we all figure out how to be lighting technicians and how to create a kind of romance and ambiance with the use of decor and lights.

Love it.

Why settle for only the holidays? Why not bathe your home in beautiful, pleasing light all year round?

So let’s do it!

Layers

You have flexibility and options when adding layers of light to your home. There are four basic layers: Ambient, Task, Accent and Decorative.

Intent

You need to consider what your intent is when it comes to lighting. Do you want to define a space or architectural feature? Perhaps you have a room designated for specific activities – movie room, yoga studio…you name it. This all comes into play when making a choice of lighting.

Control

You can control the lighting in several ways. These include focal point, intensity, spread, angle, color temperature and color. Keep these in mind when making lighting decisions.

Special Considerations

When adding layers of light to your home, there are several things that will affect the final look. These include shadows, dimmers and glare.
