#SmallBusinessShoutout: RiceBox

On this week's #SmallBusinessShoutout, we highlight RiceBox, a Cantonese BBQ located at 541 South Spring Street #131, Los Angeles, CA 90013.

RiceBox is one of several businesses that may be impacted by the proposal to restrict gas appliances in new residential and commercial construction. Gas appliances are used to prepare some of your favorite Korean BBQ's flame-seared meats, charred vegetables, and intense heat for woks, according to Yahoo News.

L.A. County aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, causing many restaurant owners to express concerns.

Leo Lee, owner of RiceBox shared with The Los Angeles Times, "by taking gas away, you're telling us we cannot use woks anymore, essentially taking away our identity and heritage. It forces us to adapt to American culture."

Converting to an all-electric kitchen will also most likely raise monthly costs and possibly leave restaurants vulnerable to discrimination.
