The Covid situation has affected our local small businesses and many are struggling to stay afloat. In an effort to help those small businesses survive, we are featuring them in a segment we call #SmallBusinessShoutout, brought to you by SoCal Gas Company.
This week, thanks to our own awesome anchor Laila Muhammad, we are spotlighting a woman who spent the pandemic making some bomb ass olive oil cakes...literally!
Liz Roth is the founder of Little House Confections and she always had a passion to bake. She grew up baking and eventually created her own creations, that's when her delicious olive oil cake was born. Looking to pursue baking full-time, she enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu in 2007. But a few months into her studies, she underwent spinal surgery, and she couldn't complete her dream of opening a bakery. Instead, she focused on another passion, interior design, eventually opening her own full service design firm and shop Elizabeth Roth Home.
She continued to bake in her spare time, but when Covid-19 hit, she found herself baking more than ever and gifting her cakes to family and friends. That's when she saw an opportunity to take this lifelong passion and use it to help others. So she founded Little House Confections in 2020 as a charitable campaigh to raise money and awareness for Covenant House of California. The support she received was incredible and as a result, Little House Confections turned into a store front with a fully functioning bakery offering her original 'Bomb Ass Olive Oil Cake' and other delicious confections.
The cornerstone of Little House Confections is charitable giving, and a portion of profits each month are donated to a small local charity in an effort to give back to the community that has supported her.
