Keith Sharon takes us inside the biggest bank heist in U.S. history

O.C. Register Reporter Keith Sharon takes you inside the biggest bank heist in U.S. history, which happened right here in Southern California.

Back in 1972, seven guys from Youngstown, Ohio targeted President Richard Nixon’s shady campaign funds which were sitting in a bank in Laguna Nigel.

They were after $30 million.

30 years after the heist, Sharon managed to track down the getaway driver and learn the incredible story about the criminal masterminds involved. In 2003, Sharon wrote a 10-part series in the Orange County Register called “Stealing Nixon’s Millions.”

The story has been turned into a new podcast, “Crime Beat,” Season One: “Stealing Nixon’s Millions” and is also the subject of the upcoming film “Finding Steve McQueen,” which Sharon co-wrote.

It’s a fascinating story! Click here to learn more at the O.C. Register.
