Airline Announces Plan To Weigh Passengers Before Boarding

Starting this Thursday, Air New Zealand will implement a new procedure requiring all passengers to be weighed prior to boarding their flights. This initiative aims to ensure optimal aircraft balance, as mentioned by load control specialist Alastair James. He explains that the airline already weighs various items loaded onto the aircraft, including cargo, meals, and luggage in the hold.

Recognizing that weight can be a sensitive topic, James emphasizes that measures have been taken to prevent any passenger embarrassment. He reassures customers that their weights will remain confidential and inaccessible to both the airline staff and fellow passengers. There will be no visible display or any means for anyone to view the weight measurements—it is entirely anonymous.
