Throughout recorded history, there have been exactly eight sightings of white killer whales around the world. Until Monday, that is.
- Video taken Monday in Southern California shows a pod of orcas swimming off the coast – and among the ocean mammals is a white killer whale calf. The footage was captured by Newport Coastal Adventure about 45 miles from Newport Harbor, which had taken 20 whale watchers out on the water to search for the creatures, according to Captain Delaney Trowbridge.
- The white killer whale, which the group of whale watchers named “Frosty” because of his light pigmentation, even made a few close passes under the boat before heading out to sea with the rest of its pod, Trowbridge says.
