One person is dead and five others are recovering from injuries after a parking garage partially collapsed Tuesday in New York City.
- The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. EST in lower Manhattan’s financial district, about a half mile away from the New York Stock Exchange, according to the NYPD. “It felt like an earthquake,” says Liam Gaeta, a student at Pace University. “There was a large noise and a big rumbling, and then we all got evacuated.”
- Video taken at the scene shows a number of vehicles teetering on the edge of the three-story building’s upper deck as firefighters dug through the rubble in search of victims. As of 7 p.m. EST, all people who were in the garage at the time of the collapse had been accounted for, a fire department spokesman says. The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.
