Although recent storms in California resulted in massive power outages, mudslides, flash floods and toppled trees, they've ultimately proven to be good for the state.
Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday announced he's scaling back drought restrictions because the recent rain has replenished many of the state's reservoirs. The restrictions had been in place for three years.
Last year, the state was forced to ration drinking water to districts, giving each about 5 percent of the amount they'd requested, Newsom says. This year, they'll be getting more than 75 percent, he says.
