Los Angeles has ranked fifth in the Orkin's Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List. Orkin is an Atlanta-based pest-control company that ranks cities for amount of bed bugs. These rankings are based on bed bug treatments between December 1, 2021 and November 30, 2022.
Los Angeles has jumped 7 spaces from the previous year. However, LA is not the worst city in America for bed bugs. The number one city is Chicago, followed by New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland-Akron.
To avoid bed bugs, Orkin recommends for you to check for them regularly, limit clutter around your home, and inspect second hand furniture before bringing it inside your house.
When you travel, Orkin recommends to follow the S.L.E.E.P. method:
Survey the area for signs of bed bugs
Lift and look for signs of hiding spaces for bed bugs
Elevate your luggage from the ground
Examine your luggage while you're repacking to go home
Place your clothing in the dryer for around 15 minutes as soon as you get home from travel
