A California woman and her two dogs are dead after they were struck by lightning on Wednesday, authorities say.
- The woman, whose name hasn't been released, was walking her dogs near Pico Rivera's San Gabriel River at about 8:50 a.m. when the strike occurred, police say. The bodies of all three were found on a walking path a short time later, according to Pico Rivera City Manager Steve Carmona.
- The incident has prompted city officials to warn residents to stay indoors until a storm that's moved in over the area has passed.
"I'm scared," says resident Mary Perez. "I told my granddaughter and her friend, she's not walking to school, I'm taking her. I think more about the lightning. Not that I never thought about it. I didn't think it could really do that. It's just awful."
