A former Yale University employee has pleaded guilty to stealing over $40 million worth of computers and electronics from the school.
- 42-year-old Jamie Petrone was a a finance administrator at Yale's School of Medicine, where she used department funds to buy thousands of computers, tablets, and other electronics - which she then sold on the black market in New York.
- She was able to keep the fraud up for nearly a decade by breaking the purchases up into amounts smaller than $10,000 - the maximum amount she was able to authorize without approval from higher-ups.
- Prosecutors say Petrone used the money on luxury cars, travel, and real estate. She faces wire fraud and tax fraud charges.
- What makes people give in to the temptation to pull off a scheme like this? Have you ever had a job where you were trusted with large amounts of money?
