On October 15, we in the radio community received a loss of one fantastic talent. Brought forward by his daughter via Facebook, today we remember KRLA Radio legend Dave “The Hullabalooer” Hull. Hull passed away at the magic age of 86.
“Our dad was larger than life and he had the stories to tell to anyone who would listen. We know that he is entertaining everyone in heaven,” his daughter, Lisa said.
Hull was known for his vibrant personality, incredible story telling ability, and ties to the likes of The Beatles (yeah, those Beatles). He got into radio while in the Armed Forces. While being deployed in North Africa one day Hull walked by the service radio station, asked what it would take to be on the air, and was given a time slot almost immediately.
His big break came after his improvised German routine during a comedy set. Hull spoke no German but decided to wing it. The bit was so funny that he received a permanent slot on the air.
Hull, the Alhambra, CA native, has claimed many radio stations as his home including: KFI (640 AM), KIKF (now KEBN, 94.3 FM), KIQQ (now KKLQ, 100.3 FM), among others. His final position was held at KWXY (1340 KHZ) in Palm Springs inn 2010.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the California native, Hullabalooer!
