Words Ignite’s 13th annual Classic Poetry Slam Finals will be held on April 20, 2024. The event will be a youthful celebration, featuring some of Los Angeles' best youth poets as they use their voices to share fresh perspectives and demonstrate storytelling at the highest level. The Classic Slam is the culmination of Get Lit’s in-school programming and one of the largest Spoken Word events in the country. Now in its 13th year, the Classic Slam has grown to a multiple-day event held in historic theaters with thousands of dollars in prize money. The two-day Classic Slam event, which culminates with the finals on April 20th, is the largest classic poetry slam in the world and includes hundreds of young poets from schools throughout southern California. These young poets will come together to perform classic/contemporary poems alongside their original Spoken Word responses, live, for a panel of judges.

On April 20th, Get Lit will be holding its 13th annual Youth Classic Slam Final competition at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, and tickets for the general public to attend the event have just gone on sale!  The Classic slam will feature top middle and high school students from the Los Angeles area communicating their thoughts, challenges and passions through spoken word performances! We would love to see if there is a way to work with you to help spread the word so other enthusiasts and families can come support these impressive young students as they demonstrate storytelling at the highest level.
