Young and determined, Chef Sugar Sungkamee is the owner of Spicy Sugar in Long Beach. She’s the daughter of the late Chef Suthiporn“Tui” Sungkamee, of Jitlada(a favorite of the late Jonathan Gold) and one of LA’s lauded Thai restaurants. Her dad passed away in 2017 – and she operates both Jitlada and Spicy Sugar
Spicy Sugar is in an unassuming storefront but one of the most popular places for Thai food. Take-out and delivery is basically what saved Spicy Sugar during the pandemic. They are just opening NOW for dine-in– she is, for the most part, a one-woman show managing two restaurants that help her keep her dad’s spirit alive
