Chef Chef Kuniko Yagi’s has stopped by to talk about her new restautant Pikunico. The meaning behind it is picnic foods and Chef Kunikos name. This is Chef’s Kuniko’s first standalone passion project, Piknico, will open next month at the mixed-use ROW DTLA complex in Downtown LA. You can find house made “karaage” (Japanese-style fried chicken) served in a sandwich, basket, or rice bowl, along with market-driven salads, sides, and Japanese craft beer.
A prolific force in LA’s dining scene, Yagi began her culinary career at Sona, David Myers’ since-closed Michelin-starred restaurant in West Hollywood. (Myers took a chance on Yagi, a former banker seeking to transition into food, after she fortuitously served him while working in a Japanese noodle shop – and unwittingly began a passionate discussion about cooking.)
