Read Your Way to Being a Good #BLM Ally

It's time for white people to educate themselves about race in America. The best way to do that is to read. Reading allows a person to learn without feeling preached to or judged. It allows a private journey of reflection, questioning and growth. Read in your own time at your own pace.

To help you get started, here is a short list of some of the most respected books on race and our society.

Stamped from the Beginning, by Ibram X. Kendi

White Fragility, by Dr. Robin DiAngelo

So You Want to Talk About Race, by Ijeoma Oluo

A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn

And how about our kids? They are the future, after all. We have learned how important it is to read with your child. Too often, though, kids' parents unconsciously read books that include characters only of their own race. Why not branch out? Why not include several books in the kiddie library with some ethnic or cultural diversity?

To help get started, below are a few links that will provide tips on what to look for, recommended books and recommended Black booksellers. Teach them while they're young. It's ok to be different.
