Phil Hendrie Joins Bill Handel

If you've been a KFI fan for any length of time, then you know the name Phil Hendrie, who had, hands down, the most original show in the history of radio.

Phil first was heard on KFI in 1989 with a weekend show, which didn't last too long. After KFI, Phil went on to do a show at KVEN in Ventura in the summer of 1990, and it was there that he reinvented himself, by creating an on-air fictional character named Raj Fahneen. At the time, the Gulf War had broken out and Fahneen was a staunch supporter of Saddam Hussein. This really ticked off listeners and created a huge buzz around Phil, who went on, over the next two years, to create more fictional on-air characters and hone his craft, which would eventually lead him back to KFI in 1996.

The genius of Phil is that he portrayed himself as the calm, rational radio host, while simultaneously portraying outrageous, offensive characters that would argue with Phil and callers in debates on the show.

And he did this all with a microphone and a telephone....and that's it.

Phil's brand of radio was original, genius, outrageous and so much more, and a new documentary talks about all of it and its impact on the radio industry.
