According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, the majority of American adults believe social media has harmed democracy.

In a poll of 19 nations, including the United States, Pew researchers found that, on average, 57 percent of respondents agreed that social media had done better than evil for their country's democracy. However, this percentage was far lower among respondents from the United States.

Only 34% of respondents in the United States said that social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp had a positive influence on democracy, while 64% believed the opposite.
