Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the state will start producing its own insulin.
The move will potentially lower the price of the drug that can cost people with diabetes thousands of dollars a year.
In a video address, Newsom says:
“Nothing epitomizes market failures more than the cost of insulin. Many Americans experience out-of-pocket costs anywhere from 300-to 500-dollars a month for this lifesaving drug. California is now taking matters into our own hands.”
This will make California the first state to produce its own drugs.
