President Biden has invoked the Defense Production Act to try and ease the nationwide baby formula shortage caused by the closure of a major plant.
The Defense Production Act gives the president the authority to require companies to prioritize the manufacturing and allocation of goods in response to a crisis.
Biden is using the act now to require suppliers to prioritize necessary ingredients to baby formula manufacturers before any other companies.
He has also ordered federal officials to use Defense Department aircrafts to pick up infant formula from overseas in what the White House is calling "Operation Fly Formula".
