A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the death of a 15-year-old girl whose body was discovered outside a Compton business last week, authorities announced Wednesday.
The 15-year-old's body was found around 1:30 a.m. on Victoria Street, east of Wilmington Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. She was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner as Samantha Bustos-Vital. The girl's family told NBC LA that she had been missing after her daughter claimed to be going to a sleepover with her best friend, but went to a party instead. Bustos was last seen Friday in Compton.
Sheriff's officials said the victim had ``sustained traumatic injury'' to her upper body.
"The cause of the traumatic injury is unknown,'' sheriff's officials said. "The cause of death and identity will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.''
The body was found face-down in bushes by a passerby, according to reports from the scene.
No details about the suspect has been released other than being identified as a juvenile.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
