President Trump will direct agencies to deploy the National Guard to the US/Mexico border wall. Homeland Secretary Kristjen Nielson announced Wednesday that details of the plan are still being finalized but that the deployment will begin immediately.
The amount of troops sent to 'assist with border patrol' has not been disclosed but the DHS secretary said that this may mean the National Guard will help with aerial surveillance and general support rather than boots on the ground and arrests.
This action follows Trump's announcement Tuesday that the military needs to secure the border "until we have a wall".
