Would you buy a home in a community if you had to sign a "Kindness Contract?"
A new master-planned community in the Inland Empire is betting you will.
Silverwood is a budding new community that wants to pioneer a 'culture of kindess among its residents.' Those planning the community say they're building 15,000 homes on 9,000 acres, and if you want to buy a home there, you'd have to sign a 'kindness contract.' And you wouldn't be the only one, planners say they have also asked the builders and vendors they are using to also sign the kindess contract so that the kindness is literally built into the fabric of the community.
According to the Silverwood website:
"Our vision is to create a place not just to live, but to truly thrive, where the horizon is not just mountains but the shared joy of collective harmony.
At the heart of this endeavor is the 'Kindness Initiative,' a comprehensive program to infuse into every aspect of the Silverwood experience the gentle strength of goodwill. The initiative will begin prior to purchasing and follow with how new homeowners will be welcomed to the community and design of activities, events and partnerships across the community. From simple tasks like preparing a meal for a sick neighbor to coming together as a community to raise funds for local non-profits.
Kindness will be as endless as the vast desert sky."
Planners say the benefits to this approach are grounded in research that documents that communities that prioritize and practice kindess experience lower crime rates, reduced stress, increased cohesion and more compassion for each other, and that environment breeds success from kids doing better in schools to residents leading healthier (both physically and mentally) lives.
