Thanks to the Department of Motor Vehicles, more than a million Californians can now get a digital driver's license. The DMV's mobile driver's license program is currently available to the first 1.5 million people.

You can simply download the CA DMV Wallet app to your smartphone, take photos of the front and back of your real ID, and upload them to the app. It can be very beneficial for a few things, but it is recommended not to be used in place of real ID.

The electronic version is available for use at three California airports:

  • Los Angeles International Airport,
  • San Jose International Airport
  • San Francisco International Airport.
  • Phoenix
  • Las Vegas airports.
