Actress Anna May Wong to Be First Asian American Featured on US Currency

Trailblazing actress Anna May Wong will make history as the first Asian-American to be featured on US currency.

Wong was considered to be the first Chinese-American film star in Hollywood, launching her career during a time when many Asian actors were forced to play harmful stereotypes.

She was also the first Asian-American actor to be a lead in a US television show; “The Gallery of Madame Liu-Tsong,” in which she played a Chinese detective.

The US Mint will begin production on 300 million Wong coins as the final installment of its American Women Quarters Program.

Other women featured on American Women Quarters include Maya Angelou, Sally Ride, Nina Otero-Warren, and Wilma Mankiller.
