Josephine, a six-banded armadillo that escaped from the Sacramento Zoo, has been found safe and sound.
As it turned out, zoo officials didn't have to go far to locate the 18-inch, 12-pound creature.
Zoo officials say she was hiding about almost 200 feet away from her home in the zoo's Interpretive Center.
"The veterinary staff immediately examined her and gave her a clean bill of health...We are happy to report that Josephine is healthy and safely back in the Interpretive Center."
Six-banded armadillos are native to South American grasslands. They're strong diggers and can shelter underground if they so choose.
They aren't considered a threat to humans or other pets and while they have poor eyesight, their sense of smell is excellent.
