Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John Lewin is now requesting a court order to depose Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.
Lewin claims he was demoted for criticizing Gascón's sentencing policies. Despite more than a year of requests, Gascón has not scheduled a deposition. Lewin’s attorneys argue that Gascón has direct knowledge pertinent to the case.
Lewin, honored with the 2021 Ken Lamb Distinguished Achievement Award, alleges he was transferred from the prestigious Cold Case Unit to a lower-profile role in Inglewood due to his outspoken criticism.
Following the lawsuit filed in February 2023, a hearing on the motion is scheduled for September 23.
