In Irvine, authorities are cautioning the public regarding a rise in criminal activities within the city, some of which are linked to organized criminal factions.

Within the past 35 days, there have been a total of 34 home burglaries reported.

In a number of these incidents, burglars gain entry by accessing second-story windows or deactivating and damaging security cameras. Additionally, over half of the burglaries involve thefts from garages.

Law enforcement suspects that approximately 20% of home burglaries are connected to organized and skilled burglary groups.

In an interview with NBC4, Irvine City Councilmember Tammy Kim said, "Irvine is not immune. It's not zero crime. When we say Irvine is the safest city in the United States, it is true through FBI statistics for a city of our size. But it doesn't mean you leave your front door open. It doesn't mean you leave your garage door open.”

Tips to stay protected for theft:

  • Invest in a security system equipped with cameras that have activity alerts, ensuring they start recording upon detecting motion.
  • When a stranger approaches your door, communicate with them through your camera or from behind the door to indicate that someone is present.
  • Keep track of your valuable items, including serial numbers, receipts, and photographs.
