The release of racist recordings involving three members of the Los Angeles City Council has been called a major crime by labor leaders in the city, but the LAPD is not looking into who recorded and distributed the film because no one has filed a police report, according to the LA Times.
How the tapes were made is still a mystery more than a week after the leak. With very few exceptions, it is illegal to record conversations in California without the subject's consent.
According to LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz, the department hasn't gotten a call from the labor union or any other organization requesting that detectives look into the situation, and therefore, the LAPD is not looking into it.
The Federation of Labor confirmed Monday that it had not contacted the LAPD or the Los Angeles County district attorney's office to inquire about the leak, nor had it heard from a police agency.
