CA Legislature's session ends, all about tax hikes and resisting Trump

On Saturday the state Legislature wrapped up their work for the year by passing all kinds of bills, on issues ranging from the housing crisis to illegal immigration. Senate Pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) said:

"I think this has been an historic year for all of our accomplishments. We put our values into action."

The first year of the Legislature's two-year session is over, and now lawmakers will go back to their home districts until January.

Speaking of Kevin de León's so-called "vales," his "California Values Act," SB 54, was approved after some amendments. It's still a horrible bill that limits communication between police and federal law enforcement, but de León doesn't care. He loves protecting criminals.

The Legislature also approved a new real estate transaction fee and a $4-billion bond that the voters must approve next year.

This year has been all about taxes, protecting criminals, and resisting President Trump. Here's what else got passed:

  • The extension of Jerry Brown's cap-and-trade gas tax
  • The massive $52-billion car and gas tax
  • The whopping $183.2 billion budget

In his closing remarks, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) said:

"We're wrapping up what may be the most progressive legislative session in memory."

Governor Brown now has until October 15th to sign or veto the bills on his desk. Click here to read more at the L.A. Times.
