Gun violence has become so bad in Sacramento, that city leaders have decided to pay gang members $1.5 million for a cease-fire.
After a fatal shooting at a city park a couple of weeks ago, the city council unanimously approved the controversial Advance Peace program in an effort to curb the violence.
Advance Peace offers gang members cash stipends for graduating from school and for generally staying out of trouble. How easy is that?
Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said:
"Let's get going on doing everything we can to save innocent lives."
The money will come from the city's general fund. The city of Richmond uses a similar program, and Stockton is thinking about using it too.
Allen Brown, a friend of Ernie Cadena, 49, who was killed in the park shooting, told Fox 40:
"How's the vote going to change anything? It's up to the community to change. You know what I mean? It's just senseless."
