Parolee leads cops on beach car chase

A 38-year-old parolee from Bakersfield led police on a car chase through Oceano Dunes state beach yesterday, leaving families and their children rushing for safety.

Joshua Anthony Jordan from Bakersfield was wanted in two counties:

  • In San Benito County for allegedly making criminal threats
  • In Kern County on a no-bail warrant for a parole violation

Deputies first started following Jordan after following an attempted stop in Nipomo. The chase was called off for safety reasons when he hopped on the 101 driving the wrong direction.

About an hour later he was spotted again near Pismo Beach and the chase was back on. Jordan drove through downtown Pismo Beach and along Highway 1 before speeding onto Oceano Dunes, which is a beach that the public can legally drive on.

Jordan eventually ditched his car after it got stuck in the sand and he ran into the ocean. He was taken into custody at gunpoint and was arrested on "suspicion of felony willful cruelty to a child with possible injury or death and evading a police officer in a reckless manner."
