Iowa Caucus Results Delayed Over 'Inconsistencies' In Vote Reporting

Democrats Caucus In Iowa As The 2020 Presidential Nominating Process Begins

The Iowa Democratic Party says it has identified the problem that led to inconsistencies in data being reported from last night's (February 3) presidential caucuses. Officials released a statement explaining that while the data collected through a new app was correct, it was only reporting partial data. They said it was caused by a coding issue in the reporting system, and that it has been fixed.

They said that the results are still being reported, and they expect to the announce them later today.

"In addition to the tech systems being used to tabulate results, we are also using photos of results and a paper trail to validate that all results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report," Iowa Democratic Party Communications Director Mandy McClure said.

While everybody waits for the final results, some of the candidates claimed victory based on their own internal polling.

Senator Bernie Sanders' campaign released their own incomplete numbers, which showed Sanders leading the other candidates, while Pete Buttigieg claimed he pulled out the upset victory.

The candidates will take the debate stage this Friday (February 7) in New Hampshire as they prepare for that state's primary next Tuesday.
