Michael Cohen Pleads Guilty To Lying To Congress

Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to President Donald Trump, exits federal court

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer, made an appearance at a New York City courthouse where he pleaded guilty to lying to Congress. Cohen made the false statements in 2017 while testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Cohen reportedly lied to the committee about plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow in 2016, which were eventually scrapped. He also misled Congress on the timing of the negotiations, in order to stay in line with Trump's "political message."

Cohen pleaded guilty over the summer to financial crimes and campaign finance violations relating to a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair she had with Trump over ten years ago.

Cohen faces up five years in prison and a fine of up $250,000.
