SANTA ANA (CNS) - Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old man outside a McDonald's restaurant in Santa Ana, authorities announced Monday.
Officers responded to reports of a stabbing around 3 p.m. Sunday near Sunflower Avenue and Bristol Street, north of the San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. They found the victim, unresponsive with a stab wound to his upper torso, in the parking lot of the McDonald's at 3810 South Bristol Street, police said.
The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
During the investigation, officers learned that a woman had also been assaulted by a man in the same shopping center, reporting she had been punched multiple times in an unprovoked attack, police said.
Officers detained the suspect near that crime scene.
"The investigation revealed that the suspect involved in the assault also approached and stabbed the homicide victim," according to a police statement. "The two victims were unrelated."
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Justin Anthony Carlin, was arrested on suspicion of murder and additional charges related to the assault, police said.
