HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A 35-year-old man was behind bars Monday on suspicion of killing of a woman last month in Huntington Beach, police said.

Christopher Mendez of Diamond Bar was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Friday at the border with Mexico as he attempted to re-enter the U.S., said Jessica Cuchilla, a spokeswoman for the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Mendez, who was being held on $2 million bail, is accused of killing 35-year-old Nicole Marquisee of Walnut on May 31, Cuchilla said.

Police were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. that day to a residence on the 1100 block of England Street for a suspicious death.

Police would not release any further details.
