LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A pro-Palestinian tent encampment that was erected in front of Los Angeles City Hall and prompted police to issue a tactical alert was mostly taken down Tuesday.
About 20 tents began going up on the sidewalks outside the building at Main Street and First Street late Monday afternoon. Several tents had Palestinian flags and phrases such as "Free Palestine" and "Free Gaza," according to KNX.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service on Monday night that officers were monitoring the area.
At 9:25 p.m. Monday, the department's Central Division posted the following on social media: "There is a non-permitted demonstration occurring in the Civic Center portion of DTLA. Please use caution in the area due to people in the roadway."
NBC4 reported that the department issued a tactical alert, but no arrests had been reported as of midnight.
Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police moved in to remove the protesters and their tents and by 1:40 a.m. the crowd was mostly dispersed, according to KeyNews.TV.
