ALTADENA (CNS) - A man and a woman were killed early Tuesday in a fiery SUV crash in Altadena, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers called at about 1 a.m. to 64 West Loma Alta Drive found an overturned vehicle engulfed in flames, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel pronounced the man and woman dead at the scene.

They were identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as John Michael Ross, 29, of Altadena, and Emalie Marie Ortiz, 23, of Alhambra.

According to the CHP, Ross was driving a 2019 Audi Q5 west on Loma Alta Drive "at an undetermined speed" when the SUV crashed into the rear of a parked 2008 Volvo CX 90.

"As a result of this crash, the driver and passenger sustained fatal injuries," the CHP said in a statement. "Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision."

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to contact CHP Officer Jose Maduena at jose.maduena@chp.ca.gov, or 626-296-8100.
