LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Unified School District were open again Tuesday with the exception of two campuses considered to be in storm- threatened areas, while all schools in Malibu also closed down for a second day in a row despite earlier plans to resume normal activities.
In the LAUSD, Vinedale College Preparatory Academy in Sun Valley and Topanga Elementary Charter School were both still closed Tuesday. Vinedale Students were again instructed to report to Glenwood Elementary School, 8001 Ledge Ave., Sun Valley, while Topanga students were asked to report to Woodland Hills Academy, 20800 Burbank Blvd.
All other LAUSD campuses were open Tuesday.
LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said student attendance was only 63% on Monday, but officials had expected decreased attendance due to the storm conditions. But he said 90% of district teachers, bus drivers and classified employees reported for work.
All Malibu schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District schools were closed Monday, with multiple reports of mud and rock flows affecting canyon roads in the area. District officials announced Monday night that the Malibu schools would reopen on Tuesday morning. However, with rain still falling and canyon roads impacted, school officials reversed course Tuesday morning and again shuttered all of the Malibu campuses in the district.
All Santa Monica campuses in the SMMUSD remained open.
Some California State University campuses were either closed or switched to modified operations Monday, but most returned to normal operations Tuesday. Students were advised, however, to continue checking with instructors and school officials to double-check the status of their courses.
Long Beach City College closed both its Liberal Arts Campus at 4901 E. Carson St. and its Pacific Coast Campus at 1305 E. Pacific Coast Highway on Monday, but will reopen Tuesday.
