BUENA PARK (CNS) - A motorist driving a pickup loaded with equipment led Buena Park police on a chase Friday that led into Anaheim, where he was brought to a stop by a PIT maneuver then refused to get out of the vehicle before being pulled to the street and arrested.
The chase began for unknown reasons around mid-afternoon Friday, with the driver occasionally speeding on streets and flying past red lights at sometimes-busy intersections.
Buena Park police followed the man behind the wheel into Anaheim. When the suspect made a turn onto Magnolia Avenue, a pursuing officer in a patrol SUV employed a PIT maneuver, spinning the truck 180 degrees and bringing it to a stop. Multiple patrol units quickly boxed in the driver, leaving him unable to drive away.
The motorist, however, refused to exit the pickup, Officers eventually fired chemical agents into the cab of the truck, and at one point they slowly approached and appeared to spray the suspect in the face with pepper spray, but he still refused to exit.
After about a half-hour, officers approached the truck again, opened the door and pulled the suspect out.
