LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A federal judge has ordered the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to release surveillance videos that appear to show deputies using excessive force on jail inmates, news sources reported Saturday.

The unsealed videos were part of a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the Sheriff's Department, according to ABC7.

The videos depict such force as deputies slamming an inmate's head into a wall, kneeling on an inmate's neck and deputies punching an inmate in the head, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In response to the Times report, the sheriff's department issued a statement saying "There has been a complete cultural shift away from the days when such abuses were tolerated."
