Police Seeking Help to Find Second Suspect in Attack on 86-Year-Old Woman

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities Friday sought the public's help to find a second suspect involved in the robbery and beating of an 86-year-old woman in the West Adams area of Los Angeles.

The crime occurred about 2:40 p.m. Aug. 8 at 24th Street and Vermont Avenue, a few blocks south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"When the officers arrived, they were directed to (a) suspect who was taken into custody," police said in a statement. "They located the victim, who was severely injured due to the assault."

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

"The victim had no independent recollection of the incident due to a head injury," police said. "Surveillance video from an MTA bus showed multiple witnesses to the crime. Video also showed an additional suspect remove the victim's wallet from her purse while she was on the ground and incapacitated. The suspect then fled with the victim's wallet."

The name of the suspect who was taken into custody was not immediately available.

Police circulated security images of the crime and of the wanted suspect, described as a Black man in his 40s with a mustache, wearing a gray beanie, a dark jacket with a New York logo and dark pants.

"Detectives are asking for the public's assistance to provide information about the incident they observed on MTA bus No.1957, Line 204 in the area of 24th Street and Vermont Avenue around 2:40 p.m.," police said.
