LANCASTER (CNS) - A man riding a bicycle was hit by a vehicle and killed in the Lancaster area, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash occurred about 10:50 p.m. Monday on Avenue L near 42nd Street West, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured man, who died at a hospital, pending notification of his relatives.

According to the CHP, a 24-year-old Lancaster man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet east on Avenue L when his vehicle "for an unknown reason" hit the bicyclist, who was riding in the same direction on Avenue L.

The motorist, who was not injured, remained at the scene and was not arrested, according to the CHP.

"Alcohol and/or drug use is not suspected to be a factor in this crash," a CHP statement said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Officer M. Averbeck at the CHP's Antelope Valley Area office at 661-948-8541, or the CHP Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
