LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Los Angeles Police Department officer accidentally fired his gun while inspecting the weapon inside the Hollenbeck station east of downtown, but nobody was injured, police said Monday.

According to the LAPD, the on-duty officer was on the second floor of the station at 2111 First St. at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday. The officer was "conducting an inspection of his duty weapon" when the gun discharged, according to police.

"One round was discharged into the east wall of the office," according to an LAPD statement. "The round traveled through the office wall and impacted into the east wall of the second-floor hallway. No one was injured during the incident."

The department's Force Investigation Division was investigating the unintentional discharge.

The officer, who was not identified, is assigned to the department's Community Safety Partnership Bureau.
