SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 30-year-old man was behind bars Friday on charges of shooting two people in Garden Grove nearly five years ago.

Thuan Van Nguyen, who was extradited from New Mexico, was being held on $1,020,000 bail, according to Garden Grove police Sgt. Nick Jensen and Orange County Jail records. Nguyen was booked Tuesday in the Orange County Jail.

Nguyen pleaded not guilty on Thursday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and was ordered to return to court May 15 for a pretrial hearing in the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Nguyen got into a fight that escalated into the shooting May 22, 2018, outside of a cafe-restaurant in the 10000 block of Westminster Avenue, Jensen said. Nguyen ran away, but he left "identifying information behind," which led to his arrest, according to Jensen.

Nguyen was charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and a count of possession of a firearm by a felon, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and discharge of a firearm.

Two victims were hospitalized following the shooting, Jensen said.
