LONG BEACH (CNS) - A fight between roommates in Long Beach left one of them dead and the other in custody Monday on suspicion of murder.

Long Beach police responded about 12:15 a.m. to the 300 block of East 17th Street on a report of a man "yelling for help," according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Arriving crews found 64-year-old Miguel Colin Garduno complaining of chest pains following an apparent physical altercation with his roommate, 34- year-old Obed Placencia-Garcia, police said.

Long Fire Beach Department personnel attempted to render medical aid, but Garduno died at the scene, police said. Placencia-Garcia remained at the scene during the investigation, and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to police.

Detectives believe the physical altercation between the two men was over money, police said, but the investigation was continuing.

Anyone with information was urged to contact homicide Detectives Leticia Gamboa or Oscar Valenzuela at 562-570-7244. Callers who choose to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
