MALIBU (CNS) - A crane crashed into a pole in Malibu Wednesday, toppling over, downing power lines and killing its operator.
The crane was being driven on Las Flores Canyon Road when the driver lost control, causing it to overturn and become entangled in power lines, KTLA5 reported.
Firefighters responded at around 5:30 p.m. Several firefighters attempted to contact the crane operator but he did not respond, KCAL reported, citing information from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
According to reports from the scene, the downed power lines started a small fire in the brush area and trapped the driver inside the overturned crane.
The accident prompted closure of Pacific Coast Highway from Las Flores Canyon Road to Hume Road, a department official said.
The crane operator's name has not been released by authorities.
