VERNON (CNS) - One person was killed today in a shooting involving a South Gate police officer in Vernon, as part of an operation that apparently involved as many as three other law enforcement agencies.

According to the South Gate Police Department, the shooting occurred at 7:12 a.m. in the 5600 block of District Boulevard in a truck yard. Video from the scene showed a body covered by a sheet. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, but multiple law enforcement agencies were believed to have been involved in the investigation, including Bell and possibly Huntington Park and Bell Gardens, according to reports from the scene. South Gate Police Chief Darren Arakawa was expected to give an update on the investigation during a late-afternoon news conference.
