LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Firefighters Sunday knocked down a greater alarm blaze at a vacant, boarded one-story commercial strip mall in South Los Angeles, the site of a previous burn, authorities said.

The 36 firefighters dispatched at 12:49 a.m. to 8936 S. Western Ave. had the fire out within 20 minutes of their arrival, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

``A two-story residential duplex to the south was skillfully protected from harm," said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. No injuries reported. The fire is under investigation."
