MONTEREY PARK (CNS) - The Monterey Park Firefighters Association will host a community BBQ fundraiser Saturday to benefit a "healing fund" to assist the city in recovering from a January mass shooting.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnes Parks, 350 S. McPherrin Ave. The association is requesting a $5 donation from each attendee.

Donations will support the Monterey Park Community Healing Fund, authorities said.

Additional information on the event is available on the association's Instagram page @montereyparkfirefighters.

Monterey Park was rocked by a Jan. 21 shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio that left 11 people dead. President Joe Biden visited the city last week to announce an executive order aimed at increasing background checks for gun purchases.
